Michele Branning, member of the Fort Mill School Board, was elected as Region 13 Director of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association’s annual business meeting Saturday, Dec. 2 Region 13 includes Lancaster, York 1, Clover 2, Rock Hill 3 and Fort Mill school districts.

The annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 81 school boards. In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopt resolutions to guide the association during the 2018 legislative session.

Branning was elected to the Fort Mill School Board in 2014.  She has earned Level 4 for outstanding boardmanship from SCSBA.

Branning is the president of the Fort Mill Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and the 2016 and 2017 Rotarian of the Year. She has received a Meritorious Mast from the Fort Mill High School JROTC and Eagle honor for her dedication and support to the cadets and program since 2013.

She and her husband, Jim, have two children. She is originally from Indiana and attended Purdue University.

President-elect, Tony Folk, Dorchester School District Four
Vice President, Chuck Saylors, Greenville County Schools
Treasurer, Cheryl Burgess, Lexington School District Three
Secretary, Jamie Devine, Richland One School District

In addition to Branning, others elected to serve a four-year term on the 23-member board of directors as regional directors are:

Region 1, Gail Hughes, Dorchester Two
Region 5, Kim Johnson, Clarendon School District Two
Region 9, Daniel Martin, Lexington School District Four 
Region 14, Travis Sloan, Spartanburg School District One (completing one year of a four-year term)
Region 15, Lisa Wells, Greenville County Schools
