Friday, October 19 Make Up Day

We will use Friday, January 18, 2019 to make-up the day missed on Monday, December 10, due to winter weather.

We will use Friday, December 21, 2018 to make-up the day missed on October 11, due to Hurricane Michael.
We understand that some of our families and staff may have planned activities or travel for this day in preparation for the holidays. In an effort to recover lost instructional time while being mindful of our community’s plans, we will operate on a half-day schedule on Friday, December 21 for all students and staff.

The district is allowed to schedule a maximum of three half-days per year. The use of only two half-days in this year’s calendar allowed the administration to use the third half-day for this make-up day.

All schools will operate on their half-day dismissal schedule on Friday, December 21. High school students will have the opportunity to attend all of their regularly scheduled classes during this shortened time frame.

The education of our students is our highest priority and the district will attempt to recover all lost instructional time when possible. Designated make up days can be found on the district calendar by clicking here. It is our district policy to use the next scheduled make-up day to recover missed time.

Per state law (S.C. Code Ann. §59-1-425), all districts must set aside three days in the annual academic calendar to be used as make up days. In the event of inclement weather, these days must be made up.

Make-up days are not impacted by the declaration of a “State of Emergency.” All districts must make up a minimum of three days before any options to forgive missed days can be used.
