During the school board executive session held Monday, February 26, district administrators shared with the board recommendations to increase security measures and mental health counselors in the district.

The Fort Mill School Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve the addition of six new armed security officers. This will provide additional coverage at our combined school campuses and Fort Mill High School which are currently served by School Resource Officers. The board also approved additional physical security systems for all school buildings and three new mental health counselor positions to address student health and wellbeing.

“The additional security officers and security systems will increase the physical safety of our students and staff,” said Board Chair Kristy Spears. “While the additional mental health counselors will support students and better identify student areas of need in the district.”

“The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is a top priority and we constantly assess our security and student services in the district,” said Superintendent Dr. Chuck Epps. “Our school board has always supported the administration in this area and again has shown their commitment to our mission of putting children first.”

As part of maintaining the security of our schools and in accordance with board policies the district does not share specifics regarding security equipment installed at campuses or emergency protocols.
