Elementary and Middle Attendance Areas
Elementary and Middle School Attendance Area Options Released
Posted on 10/08/2019

At the October 8, 2019 school board meeting, attendance area options for elementary and middle schools were presented by Dr. Dale Holden, an outside consultant to the Fort Mill School District. The district’s growth has continued at a steady pace for the past several years averaging roughly 1,000 new students per year. This growth has presented a challenge as we complete the construction of Kings Town Elementary, River Trail Elementary and Forest Creek Middle Schools. We have employed many strategies to manage this growth, such as adding new teachers where space provides and utilizing enrollment freezes to retain desired teacher student ratios. As with any attendance area process, the district works very hard to create long term plans that will not require repeated changes to the attendance areas.

Elementary and middle school parents will receive an email this week that will allow them to provide feedback on the proposals. If you are a middle or elementary school parent and do not receive an email by Oct. 10, please verify your contact information with your school’s PowerSchool clerk.

The feedback period will remain open until 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 17. At that time, we will review the feedback for consideration in the administration’s recommendation to the Board of Trustees for first reading at the October 22 meeting.

The recommendation will have second reading and be considered for approval at the November 5 school board meeting.
