The Fort Mill School District will partner with the Town of Fort Mill and the YMCA to create a new aquatics and recreation facility in Fort Mill.

As part of the 2015 Bond Referendum, voters approved $9.9 million to build a district aquatics center. Leroy Springs & Co., Inc. (LSC) will donate the Leroy Springs Complex and certain adjacent land, valued at over $10.3 million, for this combined project. The Town of Fort Mill will receive the current Leroy Springs Complex and the Fort Mill School District will receive a portion of the land located at the complex to build the new aquatics center on the site.

The district will use the bond funds to add a 50 meter competition pool area to the current complex. The Town will continue their recreation and adult programs at the complex and are planning expansion of the gym facilities, renovation of the tennis courts and other improvements.

As part of this agreement, the YMCA has agreed to take over the management of the complex from LSC and will manage the aquatics center, onsite childcare, and the current complex pool and fitness areas.

In addition to the current slate of programs offered, this new combined facility will host district, regional and state swim competitions as well as offer swim safety classes, water aerobics, and other programs to benefit the community.

Transference of the facility will occur as early as June 1, 2018. Engineering and planning for all projects are to begin immediately. The new aquatics center addition to the facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2019.

“We are excited about this project and this partnership,” said Fort Mill Schools Superintendent Dr. Chuck Epps. “This collaborative effort will allow us to create an outstanding facility that will benefit the school district and the entire community.”

“This facility has been the recreation and community hub for Fort Mill for over 30 years,” said Fort Mill Mayor Guynn Savage. “The Town of Fort Mill recognizes the irreplaceable value and is happy to receive this generous gift from Leroy Springs. The partnership of the Town, the Fort Mill School District and the YMCA will set new standards for collaboration in our area. This is truly a win-win-win for our community.”
