Family Education Program

803-548-1754The LEAP program is a Family Literacy program designed for parents and their children birth- age 5 who live in the Fort Mill School District. We support parents as their child’s first and most important teacher. We offer services that help prepare children for school success and also support the family.
Because of Covid19 regulations, we are unable to do home visits and Family Group meetings at this time. We are offering monthly home learning packets for children ages 2-5 which include a book, a learning game, an art project, student magazine, and parent information.
We are also available for telephone conference.
Please contact us at culpj@fortmillschools.org 803-548-1754 or (Spanish) ramirezd@fortmillschools.org 803-548-2531 to receive learning packets.Services include:
- Home Visits
- A trained parent educator will bring developmental information and parenting tips to encourage parent involvement in their child’s learning and to strengthen their own literacy skills. The parent educator will also bring learning activities and books for the child.
Group Meetings
Groups are available for parents and children together which enhances relationships between parents and children, introduces small children to group settings, and connects families. Parent Discussion groups are available to discuss parenting and child development topics.
Screenings
We offer developmental screenings to recognize strengths and weaknesses of the child, and to identify any potential delays. Screenings are available for motor skills, concepts, language, social skills, self –help skills, vision, and hearing.Family Resources
We direct families to agencies that address their educational, medical, and family needs. We refer children to preschool programs within our school district and outside the district. We direct adults to Adult Education classes for GED and English.
