Annual registration helps the Transportation Department plan routes, manage bus capacities, and allocate drivers effectively. Student needs and addresses can change year to year, making annual updates essential.

Routing information is provided through your parent portal before the school year begins.

A “K-1-2” refers to students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. These students require a responsible adult at the bus stop to receive them in the afternoon for safety reasons.

No, for student safety and privacy, bus routes are not publicly posted online. Individual route assignments are communicated through Parent Portal.

Students must be at the assigned bus stop 10 minutes before the stop time stated. This information in included in the code of laws, under "Parent Responsibility."  Parents and students should arrive at the stop at least 10 minutes early to ensure students do not miss the bus.

Changes can be submitted through Parent Portal under the transportation tab. Please allow 3-5 days for changes to be updated.

Transportation changes typically take 3–5 school days to be processed. During peak times (e.g., start of school year), it may take longer.

FMSD uses messaging platforms (e.g., email, text, app notifications) to alert families of delays. Be sure your contact information is up to date with the school.

For safety, accountability, and capacity reasons, students are only permitted to ride their assigned routes. Temporary changes are not allowed without prior written approval.

To ensure student safety and accurate accountability, students must exit only at their assigned stop unless a prior, approved transportation change is submitted.

Please be sure that your student is registered to ride the bus. After school changes should be communicated directly to your student’s teacher and school.

Yes, FMSD limits carry-on items for safety and space. Items must fit on the student's lap and not block aisles or exits. The full policy is posted on the FMSD Transportation page.

Stop distances vary by area but typically follow a minimum spacing of 2/10 of a mile (approximately 1,000 feet), in accordance with safety and efficiency guidelines.

Walk zones are determined based on distance from the school, safe walking paths available, and traffic patterns. Generally, students living within a certain radius ( 1.5 miles) of a school may be required to walk.
