Policies & Procedures

  • Bus Stop Parent Responsibility: Parents or guardians are responsible for making sure their children are safe, well-behaved, and on time at the bus stop. They must make sure their children get to the bus stop before the bus arrives in the morning and that they leave the stop safely after the bus drops them off in the afternoon. Click here for the SC Code of Laws Section 59-67-10.

  • Carry On Items: Students cannot bring certain items on the school bus. This includes animals, insects, flowers, perfumes, plants, glass containers, weapons, balloons, balls, drinks, and food (unless packed in a lunchbox or book bag). Large band instruments, sports gear, or bags that block the aisle, exits, or driver’s view are also not allowed. Anything that could be a safety risk or take up a student’s seat is not permitted.

  • Interference with a school bus: No one is allowed to interfere with a school bus or act in a threatening or disruptive way. This includes blocking the bus, getting on without permission, threatening or using bad language toward the driver or passengers, or refusing to follow the driver’s instructions. These actions are against the law and can lead to punishment. Click here for the SC Code of Laws Section 59-67-245.

  • Student Pick-up Procedure:  Our bus routes and stops are based on laws, safety, and helping the most students. We follow a schedule to make sure students get to school and home on time. Students must use their assigned stop. Drivers cannot pick up or drop off students at a different stop unless there is severe weather or the school sends a written request (Transportation Change Request Form) to the Transportation Department by the student's school. In bad weather, drivers may stop closer to a student’s home, but they cannot change their route.
    • Be at the bus stop 10 minutes early. Students should be ready to board the bus right away. Students who are late or at the wrong stop may get a warning or a bus conduct report.
    • If a student is only late once in a while and tries to hurry, the driver may wait. But if the student is often late and doesn’t try to be on time, the driver will leave once all other students are safely on board. This also applies to students who miss the bus and try to catch it elsewhere in the neighborhood.
    • All bus stop locations and times are posted on the Fort Mill School District website. Please help us keep everyone safe by making sure your student is on time and ready.
