About Our Superintendent

Grey Young

Mr. Young is a proud graduate of Fort Mill High School, class of 1996. He has spent his career serving the Fort Mill School District, starting as a substitute teacher, volunteer basketball coach, and summer worker in the maintenance department. His passion for education and the community has driven him to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families for over two decades.

Mr. Young began his official teaching career in 2001 at Fort Mill High School, where he focused on connecting with students and supporting their growth. In 2006, he transitioned to administration, serving as an Assistant Principal at Springfield Middle School. Later, he became the Principal at Pleasant Knoll Elementary and helped open Pleasant Knoll Middle School in 2017. These roles helped him grow as a leader and develop skills in decision-making, supporting staff, and creating a positive school culture.

Mr. Young holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Winthrop University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina, and is currently completing a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership at Clemson University.

Before becoming Superintendent, Mr. Young served as the Executive Director of Student Services and later as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Administration. In these roles, he worked closely with teams to create new programs, improve policies, and build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents. He helped introduce new behavior management procedures and led efforts to improve the district’s alternative programs and leadership development.

Mr. Young has always believed in the power of teamwork, working with others across South Carolina and beyond to support student success. He knows the strength of the Fort Mill School District comes from its people, and he is committed to continuing that tradition of excellence.

As Superintendent, Mr. Young is focused on building on the district’s strong foundation. He aims to continue offering great educational opportunities for all students, improve recruitment and retention of staff, and maintain the values of collaboration, continuous improvement, and community involvement. Grey’s leadership is driven by a deep commitment to the success of every student and a strong love for the Fort Mill community.
