FMSD Return to Five Day Instructional Model
FMSD Return to Five Day Instructional Model
Posted on 02/23/2021

As previously announced, the district is evaluating our instructional model in two week increments using multiple factors. The district and our area have continued to see a drop in COVID-19 case numbers. Our student isolation and quarantine numbers have been on a slow but gradual decline and at this time we have also seen limited community spread in our programs or schools. Recent information released by the CDC has shown that schools do not pose a high risk for transmission of the COVID-19 virus when proper safety protocols are in place. The district has installed physical safety measures such as desk shields in all schools and we are finalizing protocols to encourage social distancing during high traffic times. Additionally, we anticipate the legislature will approve a bill that will move teachers and staff into the 1A category, allowing them to receive the vaccine sooner.

Based on this information, the district will return all middle and high school students to a full five-day instructional model beginning March 15.

Please note: Students who are currently in the Fort Mill Virtual Academy will remain virtual. Students who previously selected face-to-face learning will continue to be face-to-face. We are unable to make changes at this time.

Providing a safe and healthy educational environment for our students and staff remains the district’s top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation in our area and make any adjustments needed. While we are seeing positive changes occurring now, we will have plans in place should the situation in our area deteriorate and the need to return to a hybrid or virtual model arises.

We want to thank everyone for your help and patience as we begin recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
