River Trail Elementary Opening Delayed
River Trail Elementary Opening Delayed
Posted on 02/05/2020
RTES DelayAt the February 5 school board meeting, the district administration announced that due to unforeseen issues and poor weather condition throughout construction, and despite every effort to correct these delays, the opening of River Trail Elementary School will be delayed.

Construction crews discovered more than 100,000 cubic yards of soil on the site that was unsuitable to support structural foundations and needed to be remediated. The district also faced 109 days of lost construction time due to poor weather conditions. These factors set the construction timeline back and have caused the school’s opening to be delayed until students return from winter break.

The administration has worked to create a plan for students that will allow a mid-year transition to the new school to be as seamless as possible. Students assigned to River Trail will attend school at Doby’s Bridge Elementary or Kings Town Elementary for the first semester before making the transition to River Trail Elementary following the winter break. Students will be assigned to River Trail Elementary teachers and temporarily housed in Doby’s Bridge or Kings Town classrooms. After the break, the teachers and all students in their classes will transition together to their classrooms at River Trail Elementary.

During the student assignment process, the district will ensure that siblings are assigned to the same school. The transportation department is also working on plans for bus transportation to and from both schools to minimize any delays. More information will be provided as plans are finalized.

It is the district’s goal to make this transition as smooth as possible for students, parents and staff. We understand this may cause some frustration as we work through this process. We want to assure everyone that the district is committed to making this a positive experience for all those impacted by the delay.
