FMSD Maintains Strong Performance on State Report Cards

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) has released the 2024 State Report Cards, and once again, the Fort Mill School District has demonstrated exceptional performance across a range of key indicators.

The report cards assess school performance on several state benchmarks, including Academic Achievement, Preparing for Success, English Learners’ Progress, Graduation Rate, and College and Career Readiness.

FMSD continues to stand out among districts statewide, with 16 of its schools receiving an "Excellent" rating, three schools rated "Good," and one receiving an "Average" rating. Excellent schools substantially exceed state standards. Good schools exceed state standards, and an Average rating signifies that the school is meeting the criteria to ensure all students meet the profile of the South Carolina graduate.

FMSD’s on-time graduation rate increased to 95.7%, the second-highest rate among traditional public schools in South Carolina, significantly surpassing the state average of 85.4%. In the area of Academic Achievement, every Fort Mill school earned a rating of either "Excellent" or "Good," reflecting strong performance on SC Ready testing and high school EOC exams. The average composite SAT score increased from 1077 in 2023 to 1116 in 2024.

Preliminary data shows that FMSD ranks 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the state across nearly all performance indicators. This includes exceptional results on the SAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams, where district averages surpass both state and national benchmarks. In SC Ready ELA and Math, the district ranked highest in the state. Additionally, Fort Mill high schools achieved the highest average passing rate in 3 of the 4 EOC subjects tested, compared to other traditional high schools across South Carolina.

FMSD's success is not only measured by student performance but also by its ability to maintain a dedicated and experienced teaching staff. The district’s teacher retention rate increased to 89.7%, up from 88.5% the previous year.

"We are extremely proud of the continued success reflected in this year’s State Report Cards,” said Superintendent Dr. Chuck Epps. “These results are a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff, as well as the support of our community. Fort Mill continues to set the standard for academic excellence in South Carolina, and we remain dedicated to ensuring every student is prepared for lifelong success."
